Toyota Tacoma's

Postby broncodude26 » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:31 pm

So in a couple years i'm going to need to buy a reliable daily driver. I want something that will get decent gas milage but something that I can take offroad in order to get to a fishing spot out in the woods or just use it to do some minor wheeling on the weekends! I've been looking real hard and Rangers, Jeeps and Taco's.

Ive done a lot of research on Jeeps and have talked to a lot of people but I dont know hardly anybody with a Taco. Do ya'll have any experience with them and whats the best years and motor to run one? I'd really like a 5 speed trans.

I was told mind you I have no experience with them that the V6's don't get that good MPG. I was told my Silverado with a 4.3 get about the same mileage which is about 19 a gallon. Now with that being said I was also told that the 4cyl does really well. Guess it is what you really want. I would check them out though good trucks. :thumbup

Yeah I've been told that the V6's dont get much good gas milage either. The I4 gets great gas milage and can take a beating but is a weak motor from what I have been told. I guess its like with the Jeep, the 4.0L I6 is a mighty strong motor but gets horrible gas milage. It looks like the 2001-2004 is my best bet as far as new, but still good models.

There are 3 engines that you can get in a Taco:

2.4 L I4 142 hp (106 kW)
2.7 L I4 150 hp (112 kW)
3.4 L V6 190 hp (142 kW)

I wonder how much of a difference there is between the 2.4L and the 2.7L? Maybe one is more reliable than the other?

I thought, for some strange reason, that the 2.4 was put in 2wd and the 2.7 in 4wd. Not sure when/where i made that up, however.

Matt my boss has one of the new Taco's and really enjoy's it. Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who stepped out of a 03 Superduty with 6.0 in the height of diesel's outrageous prices. I drove it for a few days and it seemed alright. Can't tell you about gas mileage. Ofcourse with the truck I drive anything is better. :dunno

Yeah the few people that I know with Taco's seem to really enjoy them. But same goes for me, compared to what I'd driving now; anything is better! ;HistericalSmiley

I had an older one that was kinda ragged out. I was rolling on 33's with a 22r carb. and still pulled around 15. In 4WD it would go through about anything. I know a few that have had newer ones and have been very happy. They would just get a new one every 2-4 years and loved them. Mine was great offroad and had good maners on road. Just my 2 cents. :boink
