I'm in trouble. Got another ATV last night.

Postby Ogeechee » Fri May 08, 2009 8:41 am

Traded my oldest F150 for a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500. I need to get a new battery for it, and rebuild the carb. It's all gummed up and jetted for a higher altitude.

Overall, it's in decent shape other than the worn out factory tires...

I'll try to post pictures when StuperMotors stops acting up.

I like how you have the wheels and headlight cocked over towards the Polaris like it's glaring at the new rig.

:thinking I gotta get it running to test, but I know the Suzuki won't fit in the bed of my F150 without the tailgate down. And without relocating the jack on my trailer tongue, I can't drop the tailgate with the trailer attached.

true. but it makes it all so easy. I actually had to get all that off so I could remove the gas tank to drain and clean it out. :toothless

Got it back mostly back together last night. Finished reassembling it this afternoon. I got to drive it around the yard for a while.

It acts like the choke is stuck on all the time. It also idles fast. So fast that the clutch is engaged and it grinds when i try to engage a gear. I finally got the RPMs matched enough to slip it into low range, and drove it around for about 20 min.

Overall, the ATV is pretty much shot. Lots of stuff that either doesn't work (none of the brakes work) or work intermittently (headlights) or is completely worn out (front struts) :squint

Oh well. I'm still happy to have a project :yup

It's coming together slowly.

I've ordered a new brake master cylinder and new pads for all the calipers. Also have picked up a new pull start rope and handle.

I think i've got the carb almost figured out. The throttle seems to be sticking a bit, which is kinda not-good since the ATV has no brakes right now. But it's running and idling 90% better and seems to be OK now.

I may just leave the plastics off of it. This look is kinda growing on me. :tease
