Spammers

Postby broncodude26 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 2:15 am

Been noticing a lot of them lately. Im on this forum pretty much all day and see whenever they pop up and I immediately report them so that Dale or Mels can take care of them. But, perhaps we need to up the registration a bit? I dont know if these are bot spammers or actual people...

They are actual people. I have the site set up to where you have to receive an email and read capcha. I had one spam us and at the bottom of his post he apologized for spamming us.. ;HistericalSmiley

Yeah I am probably going to have to ban gmail email addresses from signing up. We had to do that on FSB to slow it down. :brownbag

Why do they use gmail so much?

Can't you set it to Admin allow, where an Admin has to activate the account?

Yeah the only reason I don't is it isn't very inviting to new members.. Like PJB. It pisses me off that Paul wont fix my password for me and emailed him like a year ago. :aargh

yes you can set it to admin allow but....

in doing so some of the applications you decline could be someone who really wants to be apart of this wonderful site.. not just a spammer.. i used to own several php nuke sites back in the day and i done that and lost members.

only thing i could do was allow spammers but block the use of multiple accounts by the sme ip address.. in doing so the spammer cna only join once.

my opinion here hehe
